Anxiety

“Anxiety is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.”
—Arthur Somers Roche

People who struggle with anxiety often say…

they can’t catch their breath

they feel like they are being driven by a motor

their brains won’t turn off

they avoid social situations because it’s just too awkward

they feel overwhelmed by everything

little anxiety can be okay. When you have that slight nagging feeling that you could fall short in some way, you better prepare, and it’s actually even helpful. The problem is when those feelings are so deep-rooted, they become your default mode.

You may not have those physical symptoms, like insomnia or a racing heart, but your thoughts can still be destructive. Relentless cycles of second-guessing, indecision, and negative self-talk, can be just as devastating. Seeing a therapist can help you break the cycle and look at things more realistically, which is a pretty useful skill.
